About Us

Steel The Scene was formed in March 1997 by Barry Ashwick, who has extensive experience in the theatre, conference and live events industries. Barry was later joined in partnership by his brother Paul, bringing a wealth of engineering experience.
2009 sees Michael Ranson joining the team with over 28 years experience in the industry.

Steel the Scene are specialists in tailoring products to customer needs, producing goods and services that meet and exceed expectations. We are highly flexible and are able to design, manufacture, transport and install anywhere in the world.

Our premises are located 5 miles south of junction 6 of the M25, 6 miles north east of Gatwick. We have an extensive (8200 sq ft) and highly equipped workshop with a secure external compound (16,000sq ft) and our loading bay allows multiple trailer access to its 6m doors.

For over 10 years Steel The Scene have been at the forefront of scenic production, taking on an extensive range of contracts including large scale complex stage engineering, immaculately finished items for exhibition and an extensive range of conference and live event projects

Dependant on the contract size we are able to call upon additional labour from a long established group of highly motivated and experienced freelancers. This includes carpenters, engineers, fabricators, scenic artists & electricians who are fully conversant with the high standards and working practices that our clients expect.
